Robert Peter Hannigan (born 1965) is a senior British civil servant currently serving as the Director-General of Defence and Intelligence at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.[1]
Hannigan served as the Director-General, Political as the Northern Ireland Office from 2005, taking over from Jonathan Phillips.[2][3] In 2007, he was appointed as replacing Sir Richard Mottram as the Head of Security, Intelligence and Resilience at the Cabinet Office, responsible for co-ordinating between the intelligence services and government.[1] During his time in post, Hannigan led the review into a a major data breach incident, and the subsequent report[4] is informally called the "Hannigan Report".
Hannigan moved to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in his current role with effect from 1 March 2010.[5]
